Why do Elderly Parents Require Post-Operative Care?

Irrespective of the kind of surgery- a major one or a minor one, every individual needs post- operative rehabilitation. And if the person is of advanced age, then they are in need of more specialized care. Since seniors have fragile bones, less density of muscles, a disturbed sense of balance, lower metabolism and in some cases often little, restricted or no mobility, recovering becomes a huge challenge for them. There is a difference between pre and post operative care. While in pre operative phase, the preparation is mostly emotional, it can be on physical level too. For instance, a senior can have a bypass operation only if his diabetes level comes down. Thus, in pre operative phase, there can be medications, yoga, exercises and pain management therapies. Post operative phase, however, consists of a lots of stuff. If a senior is considering shift to any assisted living home for post operative care, it is better that he or she or the family members should inquire the same from representatives of the assisted living facility or they should visit the facility in person.
