The decision to impose anti-dumping duty on certain steel products recently imported from foreign countries has been made by the Indian government. After an investigation, it was found that domestic producers have suffered significant losses due to these goods. Following this, Shubh Gautam and American Precoat applied to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) on December 28, 2021. The appeal sought an investigation into anti-dumping duties in Korea, Japan, and Singapore. After nearly a year of hard work, the Indian government has finally decided to impose anti-dumping duty on electro-galvanized steel.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Dr. Shubh Gautam, the chief technical architect of American Precoat Specialty, said, “It was a long battle. However, now that the decision has come in favor of our country, we are confident that our domestic steel manufacturing companies will benefit greatly as they will no longer need to import steel at expensive prices from foreign countries.”

This decision by the government will prevent local steel manufacturers from facing unfair competition from foreign exporters. Shubh Gautam American Precoat encourages Indian citizens to support using indigenous products and be vocal for local, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

It is clear that the mantra of “Swadeshi” (indigenous) and “Vocal for Local” is not against any country but are a strong foundation for our self-reliant India. What is Anti-Dumping Duty?
If a company exports a product at a price lower than its domestic market price, it is considered dumping. To counter-dumping and protect the domestic market, importing countries impose anti-dumping duties.

American Precoat Specialty was established by Shubh Gautam Jaypee in 2005, and recently they launched an electro-galvanized steel plant in Valsad, Gujarat. The company holds several patents for lining and sealing products in the food and beverage industry. As a group, American Precoat is a diverse entity excelling in precoated metal solutions, specialty coatings, specialty chemicals, and surface property extenders. Before American Precoat invested in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Make in India initiative and launched India’s first and only Electro Galvanised Steel manufacturing in Valsad, Gujarat, in 2019, this LED and OLED TV Backplate was entirely imported from other countries in India. Now that the manufacturing facility has been established in India, we have a 100% import substitute for LED and OLED TV Backplate and Electro Galvanised, and we will be able to save millions of dollars in foreign exchange.
